Dr. Steven Corn s' main research interests are in the area of computational intelligence, particularly in the area of evolutionary computation, system optimization, bioinformatics, and computational biology. He is an active member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, including serving on the program committee for the IEEE Symposia on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. He is also involved in the development of virtual engineering tools and methods.

Research projects of interest include the use of biological systems for energy production and to control emissions from various power sources. This includes the use of bacteria for carbon dioxide sequestration, biological production of additives to control sulfur dioxide emissions in coal power plants, and optimization of methods to produce biofuels. He is also interested in applying computational intelligence and virtual engineer tools to the modeling, simulation, and optimization of energy production systems including fossil fuel plants, nuclear plants, and renewable energy sources.
